WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$ was originally made in secret by members of Nintendo R&D1. When they eventually revealed their project to management, they were given the okay to continue development.

The game wasn't originally going to star Wario, but he was thrown in on a whim because he "was very stupid and was always doing idiotic things."

The "hi-ya" in Funky Kong's theme from Donkey Kong Country is sampled from "The Pleasure Seekers" by The System.

In the North American release of Super Castlevania IV, the Dancing Spectres are individually named Fred Askare and Paula Abghoul.

This is probably more well-known trivia but Funky's Fugue is notably the only song in Donkey Kong Country composed by Robin Beanland (composer of Killer Instinct, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Sea of Thieves, etc.) instead of David Wise or Eveline Fischer, who are otherwise the only composers for the SNES DKC trilogy. This is because Funky's Fugue was originally a song written for Killer Instinct, and an early version can be seen in this KI promotional trailer.

At the very end of Super Mario RPG, Geno (or more accurately, ♡♪!?) sacrifices his life to create the letter D. RIP

So that's why he hasn't been in any later games.

In the Spanish version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, the above line by Rawk Hawk is changed to, "Amateurs should stay home playing Super Smash Bros. Melee!"

Upon finding Terra in Zozo in Final Fantasy VI, your party will converse with Ramuh using generic scripted dialogue. If you make it to Ramuh with only Gau in your party, however, he will have his own unique dialogue that fits his odd way of speaking.

^That’s fascinating, especially because some of the generic script is still in there if the wording is simple enough.

Smash spoilers from the E3 Direct, in case you've somehow avoided them til now:
Spoiler.
Apparently Japanese SSB fans have started calling Ridley "Captain America" because of his huge American fanbase getting him into Ultimate.

Octopath Traveler has a character who speaks with a type of Early Modern English, including a very consistent system of verb conjugation (I thinke, thou thinkest, they thinken, etc). The game also has no official Chinese translation. Because of these two things, some Chinese players have nicknamed the game “TEM-8 Traveler,” TEM being a standardized Chinese exam entitled “Test for English Majors.”

Among Japanese fans of SMB, there's a meme called unkomario ("sh*t Mario") where the player gets Mario up to the top of the screen and has him stand over the coin on the HUD to make it look like it's either shoved up his ass, or he's pooping it out.

In Tales of Symphonia, when you go to enter the Tower of Salvation, you enter the following rooms:

- Outside stairs leading to entrance, which takes you to:

- Diagonal pathway leading to warp pad, which takes you to:

- the big important place where plot stuff happens

What's thematically cool is that the first two rooms (the outer stairway and the inner pathway leading to the warp pad) are presented with a fixed top-down camera and the pathways are diagonal. In Sylvarant, the pathways leading to the inner tower go up and to the left, and in Tethe'alla the pathways go up and to the RIGHT, implying that this is the point at which the two worlds converge. And then when you get to the big important room the pathway goes straight up. It's super cool and very missable and I love it.

Except they **** it up and when you're leaving the tower on the Tethe'alla side after your escape they accidentally made it go the Sylvarant way. It's just that one instance too. It's consistent at every other point of the game. The outer stairs are going the correct way again. Whoops.

This has been the latest installment in "**** Apollo has noticed in ToS because it is the only video game I ever play anymore."
