In the forest maze in The Secret of Monkey Island, it's possible to come across a large tree stump. Examining it will cause Guybrush to point out a a tunnel at the base leading to a system of catacombs. On attempting to enter, a message will flash onscreen asking the player to "insert disk 22" in order to continue. After failing to do so, the game will request a few more ridiculously high numbered disks, before Guybrush gives up and muses that he'll just have to skip that part of the game.

Despite being an obvious joke, LucasArts got so many calls from players asking about missing disks that the gag was removed from later versions of the game.

When you defeat the second phase of Lavos in Chrono Trigger, the "smartest" character currently in your party will reveal that Lavos contains the DNA of all life on Earth and has been guiding the evolution of the planet for its own purposes. The priority for this dialogue is as follows:

Lucca > Robo > Magus > Marle > Frog > Ayla > Crono

There is no dialogue written for Crono (for obvious reasons), but curiously there is for Ayla (she comments that Lavos "smells" like all living things), even though it's impossible to have a party consisting of just her and Crono.

Jolly Roger Bay has the fewest coins of any course in Super Mario 64, the total being a mere 104.

Tiny-Huge Island has the most, at 192.

According to Masahiro Sakurai, Final Smashes were intended to have been a part of the Smash Bros. series from the very first game, but were not introduced until Brawl for whatever reason. The first game contains unused sound files for Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Captain Falcon, and Ness that most likely would've been used during their Final Smashes.

^for that matter, Melee was originally going to have character selection animations like the first game had

what's interesting is that a lot of these are essentially looping-animation versions of certain results screen victory poses, and that some of those animations would return for the results screen animations in Brawl.

^Also worth noting that Sheik has a "Selected!" animation, which means at some stage in development she was probably select-able from the CSS kinda like how PM does it.

Whoa that's really cool.I haven't played the N64 Smash in so long that I totally forgot character selection animations was a thing they did.

The smiley face sprite for Evil Otto (the deadly, invincible foe from Berzerk) was originally intended to be a placeholder, but the devs felt it was effective enough and kept it in the final game.
