Super Experiment Mafia - Roles and First Impressions

Post by The Amazing Tazy Ten » Thu Jun 02, 2016 5:33 pm

Since it worked out so well last time, let's do it again! List of roles and why I made them as they are. Given our past of low numbers I'm willing to cut as many roles as possible while keeping some form of balance.

Only one thing to point out here at the moment and that's a "Gimmick" which is an extra added onto the role. Some are good while some are bad but none are really required for the role. You might even have a situation where gimmicks will be removed...

But let's get into this one.

Town:
------------------------------

You are Azrael, DC Mafia Judge Dredd, Townie Aligned

Implementing Zeal... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Azreal, former assassin for the Order of St. Dumas. With your participation we hope to answer the question "How important is sanity in defeating the Mafia?" As you have noticed, you have "spirits" that will keep you from diverting from your personal code of honor. This is perfectly normal and you will be given no medication to alleviate this. Thank you for understanding.

At night, you are able to kill. However there are two stipulations to this kill. The first is that you can only use this ability the day of a lynch. No lynch, no kill. The reason for this is because it plays into the second stipulation. You can only kill someone whose vote helped cause a lynch. You can choose not to use your ability, but you also risk the Mafia succeeding. Keep your eyes on the people, Azreal, and you should do well.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely

Gimmick- Protect the People- If night starts when the Mafia are one or two deaths away from winning, then you can kill anyone of your choice.

Order of importance: 3

An alternative to the Vigiliante, and much more likely to help the town then a bad vigilante. But a more narrow list of suspects does not mean a perfect one. Mafia don't necessarily have to mislynch to win and no lynch days hurt him the most. Even his gimmick can ruin the game for the Town if he isn't careful.

Final Thoughts: A different kind of vig. More narrow minded, but still as dangerous to use. You'll need a mind like a steel trap to use this effectively.

----------------------------------------------------------------
You are a Shoji Meguro, Video Game Music Mafia Journal Keeper, Townie

Implementing Lyrics... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Shoji Meguro, Composer for the Shin Megami Tensei Franchise. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Can music be used to fight Mafia?" We understand that you have no instruments to help with your music. This is to prevent their use as weapons. Fear not as we will assist you with music in any way we can.

At night, you can spend your time writing a song with 15 lines: Five lines for a first verse, five for a chorus and five for the second verse after which the chorus will repeat to end said song. It is recommended that you make a song each night as it will help keep your thoughts in order while the game progresses. The main reason for doing this is because once you are killed, all your songs will be repeated to the remaining players in the game. Your death also allows you to leave one final vote before you die that will last until the end of the day. Be aware that you have the choice to vote for no one if you so choose, but you must decide within 24 hours of your demise, or you will not use this ability. Think carefully in your music and your strategy.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- With guests Lotus Juice- If the song is true to Shoji's style then you can choose to reveal yourself to someone and form a mason with them. Whether or not your song meets the criteria is decided by the Mod.

Order of Importance: 2

One half journalist and one half my own... personal pursuit. Ever since my first game I've played around with the idea of a "Hated Princess" a townie that would hurt the Mafia in some way upon death, but their ability would always be too powerful and I'd always regret putting it in the game. Here it's only a vote and they get no help in finding out who to put that vote on. As for the journalist part it's a way for someone to leave their thoughts for the game to see with only the gimmick to really shoot for. I suppose whoever gets this role can ignore all of this and play like a vanilla... but that's boring.

Final Thoughts: The most important part of his role may only activate after his death, but Shoji has a lot to do in the meantime. Technically.
-------------------------------------------

You are Francis York Morgan, Survival Horror Mafia DNA Testing Cop, Town Aligned

Implementing Sinner's Sandwich... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Francis York Morgan, FBI Agent. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Can townsfolk fight the fear of the Mafia?" We are sure your investigative skills will see you through the darkness. Isn't that right, Zach?

At night you can use your intellect to figure out who it was that killed a member of the townsfolk. You can do this by getting a DNA sample of the killer on the victim's body. Once you have said DNA sample you can either examine a living person to see if they are the killer of this person, or investigate a different body to find another DNA sample, meaning you have two actions a night. You will keep all DNA samples you find and investigating someone allows you to see if any of these samples match up, not just one. You will have to be quick as the amount of possible victims includes you as well, Francis York Morgan.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- The Dark Presence- So long as you exist, the town can vote for "Rules Drone". By lynching Rules Drone, the next night and day are no longer monitored, no night actions or gimmicks will take place, and votes will not be relayed to you.

Order of Importance: 1

Tazy! This cop is worse than the original cop role! ...Sure, I'll give you that. It's not a be all end all find if someone is Town or Mafia, but it can become that with care and subtlety. It requires more time, but in practice it's the same idea. Investigate the Townsfolk for murderers. And of course, if you're ever in danger you can vote for the rules drone and have a night where the Mafia can't kill. So it's all good. Right?

Final Thoughts: Hard mode for the Cop. Go get that SSS Ranking!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Ynnis, Snowflesh Mafia Nanny, Townie

Implementing Sour Attitude... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Ynnis, manipulative member of the Faerie Council. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Does political power help against the powers of a Mafia?" Yes, we are aware you are more concerned with your daughter and servant going against your wishes, but as you are a clone they are none of your concern. Please keep your mind on the task at hand.

At night you can use your magic to keep someone alive should they be attacked. Temporarily "link" yourself to them so they are immune to harm. However, this leaves you embarrassingly vulnerable and should you be attacked you and whoever you targeted that night will die. Yes, you must take great care in who you pick because you are not the only one at risk when you protect someone. It may never be a good idea to reveal who you are despite your title of "Brightness". Or maybe you have a better idea. You probably should.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Smelling Thier Lies- If you don't vote for someone by the end of the day, your vote will either move to a random person, or to the last person that voted for you today.

Order of Importance: 2

Man, hard mode for the doctor too? Yep. Protect at your own risk or have two people die at night. It makes protecting someone more of a risk then ever before. Like a Hider but the risk is on the person being targeted not the one hiding behind them.

Final Thoughts: Hard mode for the Doctor. You'll have to be really paranoid to use this without incident.

-----------------------------------------------------
Jack Barry, Stereotype Mafia Game Show Host, Townie

Implementing Ratings... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Jack Barry, host of many game shows throughout his life and accused of rigging them for ratings. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Can the Mafia be rigged?" While you are not the host, we expect you to keep the game interesting in your own... special way.

At night, you can choose to create a question, answer, and a prize from the list below. The next day, the Rules Drone will announce the question for anyone to answer and the person that gets it right receives the prize. What you do with this action is yours to decide, but might we recommend a question that is possible to answer? After all, if no one knows the answer to your questions they may give up altogether on what you offer.

Your prizes are...:
Body Armor (Protect from one negative action)
Detective Hat (One Investigation)
Poison Mushroom (Keep someone from posting more than ten times today on threat of losing their ability for the night)
Bomb (Kills)
BEEEEEEEES (Gets Stung making their name Bold for the day)
Our Home Game (Does nothing)
"Mary Jane" (Roleblock the user)
A new car (Leave the game whenever they choose)
Smoke Ball (Hides the user)
Star Piece (Adds 20 posts to your post count for the day)

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- In the Spotlight- If someone FoS's you it counts as a vote and the user must unvote to remove it.

Order of Importance: 2

If I've learned anything from ACM2 it's that if you give someone the ability to control a part of the game they will take the easiest way out. But here they have to risk giving someone a good or bad result. It makes answering the question good or really bad. That combined with the gimmick makes this one an all or nothing role. Do what you can now because you won't always have the chance to do it later.

Final Thoughts: My little agent of chaos. Go forth and cause trouble in my name!

You are Raocow, Youtube Mafia Town Lunatic, Townie Aligned

Implementing Durgun Coins... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Raocow, Youtube Let's Player. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Is it possible to commentate a situation like a Mafia takeover." Unfortunately you will most likely be at this for more than a couple of hours. As a clone you have no job to worry about. Feel free to think about the planet of the cats to help unwind.

You have no ability. However should someone target you it will affect you differently as you are a very strange sort. How we don't know but fair warning: the Mafia's kill affects you like anyone else. But don't let it get you down! In the great modern world of ours, you need to learn how to face facts, by charging at them with a hammer or a screwdriver and friggin’ plunging it in the wall! And people will ask you, ‘What the hell are you doing?’ You don’t even answer them, you just keep on plugging at the wall. Once you get rid of your house in that fashion you’ll probably be committed, and you’ll be set for life!

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- I read the comments- Suffer a breakdown whenever you are one vote away from lynching making you unable to post. Breaking this rule causes something bad to happen
[Become Independant Survivor]

(Mod note: Possible examples:
Azazel- Jailed
Francis/- No result
Ynnis- Finds the player is nuts
Duskblade- Hears the player talking to themselves incessantly
Pain Elemental- Kills
Bud Ice Penguin- Penguin is kidnapped
Wheeljack- Everyone gets Lunatic modifier
Snake- Nothing happens
Jefferson- Both are now seen as Cult. Have no cult powers
Impossible Man- Man becomes Raocow permanently changing everything but alliance.)

Order of Importance: 1

OH *sniff* MAN! Ah.... I'll admit this is the "Rather Dashing" of SEM. The weird one that has no point to really existing, but he does have a point. He's sort of a nexus? Someone for whom none of the abilities work as intended on. In a way, it's an easily confirmable role depending on who targets him, but... really I like the strange idea this brings with it. His gimmick does bring its own problem where you have to act fast because if you're held to L-1 before the end of the game you'll be unable to defend yourself.

Final Thought: I want weird things to happen and this one is immune to night actions. Don't judge me.

------------------------------------------------------------
Thunder Chip, Inside Joke Mafia Temporary Doublevoter, Townie Aligned

Implementing 20 Wind Damage... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of a Thunder Chip, commonly used in VGF Toy Battling. With your participation we hope to answer the question "Can the inanimate help face down a Mafia?" We are aware that you inflict Blind which is a wind status. However we made this chip a Thunder Chip to balance things out and allow time for ourselves.

Your ability as a Thunder Chip allows you to blind people and in the sudden ruckus you can place an unknown vote on someone (Via PM). This vote will be referred to as "Mysterious Light". This is a great way to bolster your strength against the enemy. But there is a catch. You have a limited amount of power and you will run out completely on Day 5 making you a Vanilla Townie. It doesn't extend if you abstain from using your power though so feel free to overuse it as you see fit.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Was Once a Light Chip- Anyone who targets you will have their accuracy halved for the next night whether it was for good or ill. The Mafia kill is immune to this.

Order of Importance: 3

More of an early game role than anything. This and one other role ensure that the town loses power even if they play perfectly. It rewards a more active playstyle especially during a longer game. If we get a lot less players I might have to shrink the days down so it's still a threat like day 3? Either way, its reason for existence is to mostly be a roadblock for others to overcome whether it be anyone accused of being Mafia or anyone willing to target the Thunder Chip. Even after the Doublevote ability runs out you'll have to (mostly) contend with the gimmick and it's no small issue. Not everyone can handle those odds, you know?

Final Thoughts: Pretty sure someone will have to deal with being Blinded and the doublevote ability is nothing to sneeze out. Will definitely leave an impact if it stays around long enough.

-------------------------------------------------
Macbeth, Gargoyle Mafia Stumpicide, Townie Aligned

Implementing Serious Cartoon Tone... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Macbeth, Immortal linked into an eternal bond with his sworn enemy (even if it isn't the case with you). With your participation we hope to answer the question "How does age play against the Mafia?" Unfortunately, your immortality could not be copied. Your time on this earth is short, so use it wisely.

Your ability only works during the day. To use it you must pick one other person and activate your "Stumpicide" power. Using this turns you and whoever you picked into a stump that can not vote or use night actions. They can only speak to the townsfolk. With this change comes a new mechanic: The town must now vote for you or whoever you picked. Whoever gets the most votes is removed from this game while the other person stays until the end. This is a great way to either get rid of a troublesome player without lynching them or an annoying role that is causing trouble for everyone else. Just be sure you have some worthwhile reason for using it because a stump with nothing to say is truly useless.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Time Catches Up With Us All- You will die on Day 6 if you do not use your power.

Order of Importance: 2

My other time based person. Can you beat the game without worrying about this? Yes. But that doesn't necessarily mean you won't risk dying. And of course it can be removed by a saavy player. Still, Stumpicide is nothing to sneeze at. Take out yourself and another player whenever you want? Sure they may not be gone and you won't learn their abilities but there's always a possibility with whoever uses Macbeth's ability to the utmost. Who knows? You might get more than your bargained for since a talking player is worth more than a dead one.

Final Thoughts: A more helpful stump, in a way. Or it could backfire on you completely. Whoever gets this one will have to be careful.

------------------------------------------
Pain Elemental, DOOM Mafia v 1.1.0.0.1 Vengeful Enigma, Townie Aligned

Implementing Demo... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of a Pain Elemental, minion of Hell. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Can the forces of Hell fight a Mafia situation." We realize how strange it is to need this question answered... But we need it answered. We didn't make you to ask questions.

Your power is activated upon getting lynched. You will be able to target someone with an ability chosen at random. Whatever the result is will be revealed to the town immediately unless stated otherwise. Perhaps you will give a boost to someone you wanted removed from the game... or maybe you will be the deciding factor in who wins and who loses. Who's to say? Either way, these are your possibilities:

Cop- Investigate target's alliance
Rolecop- Investigate target's role
Vigilante- Kill target
Gunsmith- See if target has a gun
Swordsmith- See if target has a sword
Fruit Vendor- Give Target a fruit
Vegetable Vendor- Allow target to use ability twice a night until the end of the game.
Day-vig-izer- Turn target into a 1-shot Day Vigilante. This will be revealed as Fruit Vendor to everyone else.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- WHERE IS THAT YELLOW KEYCARD?!- With your inclusion into the game, three random people now have keycards. If you get them all something good might happen... Fair warning that if someone with a keycard dies you will get said keycard. Though they can always give it to you if they so wish.

[If gain all keycards then role changes. Now you can use this ability at night and allows you to take away three of the options before using it, though doing so renders you vanilla afterwards.]

Order of Importance: 2

Oh boy randomness! It sort of takes the fear out of a "You killed me so die" character... in a sense. Death is still on the menu, but so is fruit and veggies. There's also the fact that this is a character with a need for items. This time it doesn't need this to beat the game, more to make their ability useful. It's a multi-faceted role that will keep the player of this role heading towards something. It'll be fun until they kill an important role. Hahaha!

Final Thoughts: It can be heaven or hell, depending on how you see it. Is it a vanilla role with a punishment for death, or a game changer with a bit of set-up needed? We can always find out.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Epic Level Duskblade, D&D Mafia Avoider, Townie Aligned

Implementing D&D Handbook... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of an Epic Level Duskblade, a thief of sorts with powerful spells they can cast instantly. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "How fun is Mafia with dice rolls?" We will be making the dice rolls for you- Whoops! Uh... just assume you get 10's from here on out.

At night you can pick a target to avoid. Doing this keeps this person from targeting you and you alone. If this person targets you they will be told that you avoided them all night. Obviously, this counts with any kill as well, so it can be a lifesaver, but it can also block positive roles. How you use it is to your discretion.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Assassin in the Palace- There is someone of royal blood in the game. If they die at any point your role changes.

[If Ynnis dies become "Chaotic Neutral Free Spirit Duskblade" giving you a 50% chance of keeping normal ability or vanillizer when targeting someone]

Order of Importance: 1

A flip on Role Blocking and a purely selfish role, but whoever said every role needs to help the town is an idiot. Keep yourself alive longer and get a much more useful ability. That's really all there is to it... and since everyone has a role being a Vanillizer makes you a king among men.

Final Thoughts: The usefulness of this role depends on who lives or dies in the game. Survival is key here.

Bud Ice Penguin, Advert Mafia Penguin, Townie Aligned

Implementing Advertisements... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of the Bud Ice Penguin, chasing after people for nasty watered down pis... I mean delicious cold beer. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Can animals fight the Mafia?" If it helps, the Mafia has a lifetime supply of Bud Light. Yeah.

At night you can pick a player and you will tell them a secret about another player. You are not told the secret and you don't know the secret but picking people night after night is a good way to get more of the truth out there. Every bit counts, including your actual vote.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- I just want a beer!- With each time you target a player you will gain a +10% miss rate for each person you target. If a night is skipped or you miss than this attribute is reset.

Order of Importance: 2

Better Description of power:
At night, the penguin is able to "waddle" over to someone and tell them a secret about another player. Multiple forms of secrets. For example, (1)"During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 has visited Player 2." ; (2)"During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 is carrying a suit." ; (3) During the night a fluffy penguin visits you and tells you that Player 1 has taken no action over the course of the night."

I suppose Information Broker would work better, but it's pretty much meant to catch people in lies so it's a purely town role. It's definitely useful though it depends on the right person getting these facts. If given to the Mafia it can surely help them just as much. P.S. The gimmick is meant to balance them out a bit.

Final Thoughts: If allowed to prosper this thing could ensure a victory to the town and the Mafia might not care what happens to it. We'll see.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hoopa, Pokemon Omega Mafia Programmed Homing Nexus, Townie Aligned

Implementing Matsuda Method... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Hoopa, the Djinn Pokemon. WIth your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Is there such a thing as a perfect defense?" Think of it as a mini experiment inside a larger one. Good news is there are no Pokeballs here that we know of, so you're free aside from being our experiment.

You have no abilities BUT anyone targeting you will have a hard time hitting you. Before the game starts you are to give the Host a list of players that does not include yourself. Once that is done you become a Nexus. Anyone that targets you will hit the first person on the list you provided depending on who is alive. It's a good way to eliminate players you've had bad feelings for from the start, but as they say opinions change... could you unknowingly doom the town if you put the wrong people near the top? Something to consider, I'm sure.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Hated- Due to a lot of people not liking you as you're impossible to catch, you take one less vote to lynch.

Order of Importance: 3

Probably not going to replace Raocow, but the idea in and of itself is to give the Nexus some control over their powers. In that way, they can only blame themselves with a kill hits the cop. The hated gimmick is mostly to screw Hoopa over in early game as aside from that it's easily confirmable.

Final Thoughts: Definitely more of an expert role. Your initial feelings will mean everything.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zeus, Trouble in Greece Backseat God, Townie Aligned

Implementing Toga... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Zeus, Greek God that just cannot keep it in his pants. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Would higher powers be invested in stopping the Mafia?" One day, even the Gods will be threatened by this Mafia crime wave. We're sure of it, which is why we must conduct this test.

You can only use your ability within 24 hours of a day's theme being announced. Using said ability allows you to send the ability back and force a second decision. It should be noted that the choice you sent back can be chosen again, so there's always a chance for the ability to be a waste but you should still take it if you do not like what you see. However, due to the potential for abuse you have only been given two charges of this ability. Still, do not make the mistake of never using this ability as it's better to waste your potential than to never use it.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Godly Revenge- Any Gimmick involving a storm allows you to use your charges as Daykills. Realize that this doesn't ensure that a storm based gimmick will happen.

Order of importance: 1

I always have to make a role that messes with my theme, whether it's Skye, or Lyle. Here it messes with the gimmicks offered and emphasizes the Greek Gods and their sore tempers. Think of it as a Dreaming God who can't choose the effects. You may think that's a little crazy, well so is this game. I'll get to gimmicks in a bit.

Final Thoughts: A sort of balance in case a bunch of bad gimmicks come up one after another... aside from the ones I have in place.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heroine of the Dragon, VGF Mafia: The Other Frontier Census Taker, Townie Aligned

Implementing Grinnies... Grinnies Found! Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Heroine of the Dragon, Professional Grinnie Faerie. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Can Mafia takeovers be handled in a positive manner?" Pavlova and marshmallows are already being served.

Your ability is simple. At any time during the game you may ask for and receive a number for how many people exist in each faction: Town, Mafia, and Indie. You can only use this ability once in the game, so when you use it is incredibly important. Use it at the start to see the immediate layout or use it later to catch someone in a lie. The choice is yours! Just make sure to let people know there's no hard feelings.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- *waves pavlova around*- All votes and Night Action PMS must have a smiley in them or they won't count.

Order of Importance: 1

Okay, in all seriousness this is a purely one time information role, taking most of the guesswork out of the game itself. Though one can wait for whenever to unleash this as the role PM itself says. It is mostly  though.

Final Thoughts: Give someone a one shot ability and see what they do with it.

-------------------------------------------------
You are Wheeljack, Transformers G1 Mafia Dr. Frankenstein, Townie Aligned

Implementing Energon... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Wheeljack, Autobot Tech Expert. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Do robots dream of ending the Mafia crime spree?" We're sure you think that way, there's no need to answer. Transform and roll out!

Your ability can only be used after someone dies in the game. Listen carefully, as you can only use it once. You must target one dead player and one living player. When you use this ability you will swap the dead player's role for the living player's. Your kooky science allows it all to be possible. It can cause some general confusion, but it might just save that all important role. Just make sure the role you get rid of isn't useful too. No need to lose the left arm to get the right one back, right?

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely.

Gimmick- Exponential Generator- If you are the most active player at the end of the day, you will lose your ability if you haven't used it yet (as your body explodes)

Order of Importance: 2

I'm a dick. The gimmick basically punishes you for putting yourself too much out there, and the ability can save a bad situation if used correctly. So don't post TOO much, right? People won't think that's weird will they? ...The possibilities are endless for this one. So it's really exciting!

Final Thoughts: What COULDN'T HAPPEN?!

William J. Jefferson, Louisiana Mafia Gold Digger, Townie-

Implementing Louisiana Law... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of William Jefferson, corrupt politician. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "What lengths should we go to if we want to eliminate Mafia?" No you can't take our money. Please be reasonable.

At night you are able to target a person of your choice. You will then block this person from taking an action. You will be told if your action is successful as you will then re-aim their action towards whoever you want. In this way, you can take full control of what the town does a little bit at a time. Sure, not everyone has an ability but these abilities are the difference between winning and losing, so be sure to pick people carefully.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely

Gimmick- Deep South- You must choose your action before the Day ends. If you fail to do this you will not make any action tonight.

Order of Importance: 1

An importance aspect of Role Blockers is to keep an event from taking place. So... what if instead the Role Blocker got to control where it went. Can you use it to confirm roles? Yeah, but you sure don't have a normal cop. So...

Final Thoughts: Expecting this to cause a lot of confusion and finger pointing if used.

MAFIA:
------------------------------------
Snake, PSA Mafia Drug Dealer, Mafia Aligned

Implementing Catchy Slogan... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Snake, the drug dealer. With your inclusion, we hope to answer the question "How do drugs affect the hunt for Mafia?" C'mon, do we look like the kind of people to betray your trust like that?

We have supplied you with a number of harmful drugs that are most certainly illegal. It'll be your job to spread these drugs to the townsfolk for good or ill. Some are helpful and some are harmful. Of course, that's in the eye of the beholder. Don't get high off your own supply before you decide what to share.

Here are your list of drugs.

Cannabis- The user gains the ability to roleblock
Steroids- The user cannot be blocked by any person or ability.
LSD- The user will recieve a guilty result even if their ability isn't investigative.
Bath Salts- The user now has a 1-shot Compulsive Vig Ability.

To win the Mafia must make up half or more of the remaining players in the game.

Gimmick- The First Taste Is Free- If someone who has used drugs targets you, then they will lose their ability, becoming an addict of the drug taken. If you are still alive you will lose that drug permanently

DIRE STRAIGHT- I'll Make You Do Anything- Everyone you have given drugs to will now reveal their role in its entirety to you.

Order of Imporance: 3

What's a dire straight? You'll see later.

Anyway, here's another attempt at making a Zant from ZM4 type character. Some of what he does is useful while some isn't but all of it is meant to cause trouble. The unpredictability of what they do with what they know can be the difference maker in a game about investigations.

Final Thoughts: If used right it'll be the best role, or... it could be the game ruiner. We might see.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are Madame Clairvoya, Mario Mafia 6 Cootie Detector, Mafia Aligned

Implementing Mario's Hat... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Madame Clairvoya, fortune telling ghost. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Will knowing the future change it?" We believe the answer to be no, but feel free to fight it if you so desire.
You are a normal rolecop, and will be able to find someone's role by investigating them. However you can also use your crystal ball to find anyone that was targeted. You will not know who targeted them or with what, but it is definitely useful. Knowing a part of the game is always a boon to your side.

To win you must eliminate the Mafia entirely/To win the Mafia must make up half or more of the remaining players in the game.

Gimmick- Mario Mafia- You have a "Barter Box" which can be used to publicly bus drive two people. Can only be used once.

DIRE STRAIGHT- Crystal Ball- All roles left in the game are now known to you.

Order of Importance: 1

Rolecop. They have a couple other roles, but... it's mostly Rolecop. Giving this person a bunch of abilities might be a bit much but... They DO end up pulling the entire Mafia crew don't they?

Final Thoughts: The lynchpin in the whole operation... mostly.

-----------------------------------
Diavolo, Jojo's Bizarre Mafia Bribed Witness, Mafia Aligned

Implementing 「K I N G C U R I M S O N」... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Diavolo, head of Passione. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Can the unseen still be stopped?" You are not Vinegar for the record. Pure Diavolo and nothing else.

Your ability only activates when someone is lynched (You can also choose to activate this ability if a lynch is close just in case). Then you must pick someone of a different alliance. This allows you to use King Crimson's ability over time to kill your choice instead. However, once you do this the town will know you did this, though they will not know your role or allegiance. You can only use this ability once so be careful with who you use this on. It can be the difference between winning and losing.

To win the Mafia must make up half or more of the remaining players in the game.

Gimmick- Stand Power: Immune to any ability that would stop yours. Instead, a series of actions must take place to nullify your ability.

DIRE STRAIGHT- King Crimson: From here on you are untrackable and immune to anything that would block your kill. Also, any kill on you will bounce back on the user instead.

[Create Gold Experience Requiem: On a Town affliated Day, someone must say "Gold" Experience" or "Requiem". If they are Anti-Mafia they will get the "Stand-creating Arrow". They must use it on themselves and will then get the one time ability "Gold Experience Requiem". Using it when the mod says "Something has happened" before the end of the day will allow the player to use this ability on someone. Which will save them from a negative effect. Must aim at whoever King Crimson is targeting]

Order of Importance: 1

One of the reasons I made this game at all, it's a role meant to throw suspicion onto a person but they end up saving someone from a lynch. It's a purely strange and broken role. But hey the Mafia are supposed to be powerful aren't they?

Final Thoughts: I want to see this get used.
------------------------

Impossible Man, Marvel Mafia X-Morpher, Mafia Aligned

Implementing Infinity Gems... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Impossible Man, member of the Poppupians. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Do aliens worry about Mafias like we do?" You do not have a normal name. Everyone knows who you are.

You have the ability to pick one person from anyone in the game. You will then form into a perfect copy of them with your win condition, Gimmick, and Dire Straight being the only things to remain constant. Confusion and using the enemy's power against them. It makes you quite the formidable obstacle, doesn't it?

To win the Mafia must make up half or more of the remaining players in the game.

Gimmick- Jungle Anarchy- When investigated you are identified as "Werewolf" due to your power.

DIRE STRAIGHT- Body Conglomerate- Pick two more players. You will be able to use all three abilities in addition to your own.

Order of Importance: 2

Always kind of wanted someone who's ability was to steal someone else's. Though in this case it's for the Mafia. As usual with roles like these the possibilities are endless but you only get one shot to use it. Unless you get the Dire Straight of course

Final Thoughts: It's gonna be good.

Tony Soprano, Actual Mafia Ambiguous Godfather, Mafia Aligned

Implementing Sopranos Theme.mp3... Please Wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others, will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Tony Soprano, one of the most popular Mafia bosses ever. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Would a godfather take part in this Mafia based crime?" Don't worry. We know who you are.

Your ability is only usable at night... and by that we mean you can choose to change it. You start as kill immune, making you immune to anything that would kill you aside from lynches. But you can choose to make it Investigation Immune, making you untrackable to anyone and everyone. There's a lot of abilities going around so use your mind and your paranoia to figure out which to be at what night. You never know which one could bring your end.

To win the Mafia must make up half or more of the remaining players in the game.

Gimmick- You Don't Wanna Piss Off The Don: So long as you exist all town roles that target another player have a 10% chance of missing.

DIRE STRAIGHT- Sudden End: Permanently Kill Immune and Investigation Immune.

Order of Importance: 1

Never liked Godfathers. It's the sort of role that balances out the Mafia because "haha this ability does jack to him" but this one requires more guesswork. Leave yourself open to the Pain Elemental's kill or Francis York Morgan connecting you to a body? The choice is the player's. Of course by the time we get to DIRE STRAIGHTS, the godfather might be in danger regardless.

Final Thoughts: A good wall for the Mafia. Don't you agree?

INDEPENDENT:

------------------------------

Ben Richards, Blood Sport Mafia Gambler, Independant
Implementing 80's style lighting... Please wait...

Congratulations! You have been chosen to help our experiment. Your body along with all of the others will be used to help create a surefire defense against the rise in Mafia-based crime. You are a perfect representation of Ben Richards, The Running Man. With your inclusion we hope to answer the question "Can--

*KSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHH*

You are human. Yes. You are, and this is a hellhole. You need to do whatever it takes to get out of this terrible experiment where life means nothing. Good news is you can get out of here by bucking the system.

At night you can choose to bet high-stakes or low-stakes. If you choose High-Stakes you will choose someone to hide with. You must pick someone you believe will die tonight. If you choose wrong the Rules Drone will kill you for breaking the rules. But, if you get it right the Rules Drone will take the body and you out of the game and you can end these experiments once and for all. If you aren't confident yet, you can choose Low Stakes which is almost the same except if the player you choose doesn't die then nothing will happen. If they DO die you will gain body armor that will protect you from getting killed for one night. You need to survive and escape these games so you can break their god damn SPINES!

To win you must guess a player's death correctly on high-stakes. You do not end the game by winning.

Gimmick- You Reveal You Die- You cannot reveal anything told to you in this role PM or you will be daykilled immediately.

Order of Importance: 1

Doesn't fit with the character? Sure. Unfair? THAT is up for debate. Sure it may seem impossible but as the player base gets smaller the chances for the gambler to win increases. Plus they can go for Low Stakes as many times as they wish to prepare themselves. It's a role about achieving a certain action and practicing until you get it.

Final Thoughts: Could be hard or could be easy. It's all about the luck of the draw

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DIRE STRAIGHT:
------------------

Hey kids! Have you ever been on the Mafia and get reduced to one member? How many of you just gave up at that moment? Why bother, right? You get nothing else to help you at this point and the town has all the power. Might as well give up!

Well, don't worry any more. Now you have DIRE STRAIGHT!

With DIRE STRAIGHT you can turn the tide no matter how large. It may not be an instant win but it'll be a huge help when the time comes. DIRE STRAIGHT activates when there is only one Mafia member left. It activates a sort of passive that gives a Mafioso much more powerful then they were when the game started. Please refer to each characters DIRE STRAIGHT for more. Now your playing with real power at the end game, aren't you?

That's right.

DIRE STRAIGHT POWER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GIMMICKS:
-------------------------------------------------------------
So here is our main gimmick. Before the start of each day, I'm going to have Jenocide pick between three gimmicks. One will give the Town an advantage, one will give the Mafia an advantage, and one will give neither a pure advantage over one another.

The gimmicks are chosen and sent to Jenocide at random before the day starts.

Town Advantage
Life Insurance Mafia- Vote to give someone a roleblock ability

Black Market Mafia- A series of powers will be given out that can only be bought for the amount of posts someone has made throughout the game before the day started.

Escort Mafia- A player is chosen by the mod. This player and the Mafia are informed but cannot explain that they are important. If this person is not lynched then the Mafia can not kill anyone tonight.

Driv3n Mafia- Whoever performs the hammer on a mafioso is taken out of the game for the night, rendering them safe.

Dream World Mafia- The mafia pick four players. One has to be mafia. The first person picked recieves a dream telling them that one of the players in the group are Mafia.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Mafia- If a Townie is lynched they can still use their action tonight.

Yggdra Union Mafia- A Random Mafia Member is chosen. If this member dies than Mafia can not take any action aside from kill tonight.

Steins;Gate Mafia- Pick a number between 1 and (Last Post in Mafia Topic), this publicly shows a post from the secret Mafia topic. This is chosen by the first person to post.

IF MORE THAN TWO TOWN ADVANTAGES ARE PICKED IN A ROW: Give Mafia one free investigation each time.

Mafia Advantage

Insane Asylum Mafia- Everyone is driven insane and will do the opposite of what is done usually.

Dangan Ronpa Mafia- Each Member of the Mafia can pick someone to be guilty for the rest of the game.

Stephen King Mafia- Role and Alignment can't be unveiled upon death.

Gold Rush Mafia- If two roles target the same person, they will cancel each other out. Mafia kill is immune to this.

Game of Thrones Mafia- Tonight, whoever the Mafia kill will become a Mafioso with a changed role to fit in.

Mario Mafia 3- Town is not told when the day ends, but the Mafia knows.

Death Note Mafia- Instead of a night kill, the Mafia get a secret day kill they can use throughout the day. If it goes unused they can still night kill.

Mafia in Congress- For the rest of this game, Dire Straight will activate at two Mafia remaining rather than one.

IF MORE THAN TWO MAFIA ADVANTAGES ARE PICKED IN A ROW: Town gets 36 extra hours to find Mafia.

Neither Advantage

Trouble in Sicily- Someone (Gambler) gets a nightkill.

Texas Justice- Everyone gets one shot to destroy a vote on someone. Everyone takes two less votes to lynch.*

Trade School- People can choose to have their role changed. They can only do so once.

100 Bullets Mafia- Can either lynch or give a random townie a vigilante shot. This shot can be nullified by voting against by a majority.

Survivor: Coney Island- If deadline hits and a target has not been decided, each vote will count as a slip of paper and put into a hat. The first name pulled is lynched.

Indy Mafia- A set amount of posts must take place, otherwise all actions will be decided by the host tonight.

Rusty Guillotine Mafia- Instead of dying today, the person lynched today will live to tomorrow but can not vote or use a role action. The next day must have a lynch as a result of this rule.

JOKER Mafia- If there's a lynch, the person who is lynched picks three people. These three are the only ones people can target for night actions tonight.

If this game lasts longer than 8 days I'll be shocked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
GAME AS A WHOLE:
----------------------------------

There has been one issue that's followed me ever since I've started running Mafia games. Something that's been cursing me since Day 1. It's not coming up with original roles because I've
actually been proud of a few (Mii, Villager in both Animal Crossing Mafias, Leif and Reese), and it's not "making mistakes" because that is something you learn as you go. It's the Mafia... or more importantly that I can't make a good Mafia at all. Mario Mafia was a disaster as was ACM2's for reasons I didn't realize at the time. ACM's was alright but that's because it was mostly standard and it buckled against the Town's roles. So this time I'm giving the Mafia a bunch more advantages. As the theme for this game is "experimentation", trying to go outside my comfort zone a lot more. As such, Dire Straights, powerful abilities, and more passive town roles are meant to balance the game out a lot more. Hopefully. Worst case scenario the town gets creamed and... really after three games of Town curb stomps I think I'm deserving of a little imbalancing towards the Mafia. The other reason I made this was to break the "confirmed roles" fallacy where good characters have good roles and bad looking characters have bad roles. Here good and bad intermingle and mix and there are no "common" roles. No normal cop or doctor or roleblocker. Even the "normal" roles are strange in their own way. It's all about seeing what works and what doesn't as even the flavor text will point out when the time comes. Personally I think this is going to be fun no matter what the size is as the roles are still usable if a little harder and the Mafia isn't getting an instant win button. We'll see how it all goes soon enough.

Because why not?
