Castlevania 1 does indeed suck.
Terrible enemy placement + terrible controls = NES castlevania

also Megaman wily wars is the definitive Megaman experience.

You'll have to explain to me how the controls in NES Castlevania are bad. And I disagree about the enemy placement, too.

You can't control your jumps, knock back, you can't move and attack at the same time. All of these combined make movement feel really stiff.

Enemy's come flying out of nowhere at the worst possible times, the short water cave section is a great example of this. The bats always show up as soon as the moving platform comes into view, making it unnecessarily hard. May I remind you that this is on stage 3.

There are some games rated 5/10 or less by professional reviewers that I really, really enjoy.

It's fairly rare though.

I'll be honest, I kind of like Shadow the Hedgehog.

I like Shadow the Hedgehog too. I just don't have the patience to go through the game 300+ times to 100% it.
Although IMO, No game out there is worth doing that.

Same. I actually played the crap out of YGO Destiny Board Traveler back in the day.

....this one is hard for me to admit.

On the playthrough where I was going for Zelos's ending in Tales of Symphonia.... despite my greatest efforts, he was not in my top 3 of affection [mandatory to get the relevant ending except for Kratos] at the time of the Flanoir scene. I was only able to get him by re-loading a save and doing a huge Sheena sidequest and choosing the dialogue options that gave her like -300, so she was bumped below Zelos and he became a viable option. He still wasn't my #1 so I did not get his version of the Altessa scene.

My claim to "getting every ending of ToS I was going for first try without using a walkthrough" is not as infallible as I often pretend. Even this veteran was hecked up by Zelos.

...which is funny bc I think when I did Raine's ending Zelos was in my top 3 for some reason, but not when I was specifically going for him. RIP. Everyone ELSE was my #1 long before Flanoir when I did their endings though, so I've still got that going for me.

That's because Zelos is too cool for school. Don't feel bad. :3

...As a side note, I know the lore of this game (and lots of other games) without actually having beaten it yet. x)
