Best Games of 2013

#1

Post by X-3 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 8:46 pm

Of the games released in 2013, which ones stand out as being your favorites?

My top 5, because that's nice and easy to list: (obviously you can list yours anyway you want)
5.) Super Mario 3D World
4.) The Wonderful 101
3.) The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
2.) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
1.) Shin Megami Tensei IV

I'll admit that I played #3-5 only recently, so they have the advantage of being more recent in the mind. Despite that, I think my time with them was good enough to warrant their positions.

Choosing between MGR and W101 was kind of a hard choice. In the end, while the former game feels a bit undercooked in several areas, the latter game suffers from noticeable technical issues such as low FPS and lengthy load times that bug me a bit more. #2-4 is really close.

Doing a top 10 instead. I still need to play EU IV and The Swapper, but even so there were just too many good games for a top 5.

1. BioShock Infinite
2. Memoria
3. The Stanley Parable
4. Pokemon X
5. Ittle Dew (Link's Awakening+Portal's humor = the best thing to happen to Zelda since aLttP)
6. XCOM: Enemy Within
7. Civilization V: Brave New World
8. Link Between Worlds
9. Metro: Last Light
10. Papers, Please

I know EW and BNW were expansions instead of full releases, but the added content made both games essentially perfect, and that's worth a mention for me. Honorable mention to Cubetractor, which is waesome, but I still haven't finished it.

I don't know if I can order them, but Fire Emblem: Awakening, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X/Y, Mario 3D World, and Link Between Worlds were all phenomenal. I'm sure Bioshock Infinite is one of the top games as well, but I have yet to play it (hopefully this semester).

ok good I have wanted to make a list for myself as well so this is a good chance. I actually did not really play many of those giant AAA titles that were released this (last) year that everyone really loved.

in order from best to less best:

project X zone
sonic and all-star racing transformed (well it was released on 3DS in 2013 which is the system I played it on)
fire emblem awakening
lego city undercover the chase begins
dust 514
the stanley parable
ryse son of rome
shin megami tensei IV
sonic lost world
tomb raider
soul sacrifice

and the rest in no order:

hometown story
beyond two souls
atelier ayesha
defiance
injustice gods among us
scribblenauts unmasked

...What games did I even buy last year?

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies was pretty great. I've barely started Super Mario 3D World, but so far it's been fun.

literally the only game i bought last year was pokemon x/y but it was awesome

Although I'm sure A Link Between Worlds and Dual Destinies will def be on my faves list once I get around to playing the first and finishing the latter

The Walking Dead: Season One (Vita)
The Walking Dead: Season Two (PS3)
Killzone: Mercenary (Vita)
Muramasa Rebirth (Vita)
Guacamelee (PS3)

Not sure how accurate this list is, aside from TWD.

...was 'Defiance' from 2013? It was pretty jawsome.

'Rayman Legends' was obvious winner, though. Whillickers, but I played that one forever and ever.

Might change my mind once I've got further into GTAV. It's been a hoot so far---we'll see.

...I can't think of any other new games I even played this year. Been trying to clear backlog. It's slow going.

Lots of good stuff this year.

5. Civ 5 Brave New World
4. The Stanley Parable
3. rogue legacy
2. Bioshock infinite
1. The last of us

I know rogue legacy wasn't AMAZING, but i really enjoyed it. And yea the last of us and bioshock may be overused for a lot of people, but i honestly loved both of them immensely.

I don't know if Path of Exile counts, but it's a great game... and it's free! If you liked Diablo I highly reccomend downloading it on Steam.

Just got done playing Brothers. I didn't bother with it initially because I'd heard it is short, which it is, but it does pack quite a bit into those few hours. Best use of dual analog I've ever seen and surprisingly strong storytelling despite being entirely in Simlish.
Now I know there's a reason you shouldn't blame others when you do something wrong, and that reason is: you might get caught and have to apologize to a bunch of dumb peasants.

I did not play a ton of new games last year, but of the ones I did, Gone Home and Bioshock Infinite were my favorites. Gone Home was by far my favorite though. It was such a good change of pace from all the FPS games out there.

The only game i played was Bioshock Infinite... and it was a very pretty game.
It was like walking throught a giant corridor full of art, i died several times looking at the level concept design.
But boy it was linear and generic.
So i don't know, no good games for me @2013. Maybe 2014.
