It looks like we got our numbers mixed up at some point. New page, so next game is...

1. Cyan's Bushido/SwdTech moves are cool, but the higher-level ones take such a long time to charge (as the battle's still going on) that they're really not worth using.

2. When you listen to the OST front-to-back, there's this big chunk of really goofy-sounding and uninteresting songs toward the second half of the game (Gogo's Theme, Umaro's Theme, and some others).

4. If you end up on the Floating Continent underleveled...you're pretty much toast. And if you save when you get there, you may have just effectively lost a whole lot of progress.

5. Woolsey's original translation had a few questionable aspects (like naming a trio of bosses after the Three Stooges, or being unable to spell Daryl/Darill's name consistently, and what the hell is "Merton" supposed to mean). The Advance port cleans up a lot of those issues, but then we get lines like this:

6.) "Hello, I am the Emperor. I'm off to claim the power of the Warring Triad. For protection, I'll bring an insane clown man who is stronger than me and a ninja mercenary. Hmm... That doesn't sound safe. I better cut the ninja loose when we get there and before I get the Triad. Man, it's times like these I wish I had a loyal underling, like a General or something."

7. If you want to learn Ultima, you must either a) acquire the Ragnarok summon, which means giving up the second-best weapon in the game (which can be bet at the Coliseum for the best weapon in the game), b) acquire the Paladin's Shield, which means having to use the Cursed Shield (which provides zero defense, carries a number of stat penalties, and inflicts a variety of status ailments) for 255 battles, or c) get Terra to level 99.

9. A lot of the characters (party and otherwise) are only particularly relevant in a handful of moments. If you were careful about the timing, you could rewrite the story so that a significant fraction of the game's named characters die without changing much about the overarching narrative.

10. Gau's Rage abilities are extensive and extremely versatile, and can be very useful... if you know what you're doing. Figuring out what each Rage does requires either a lot of trial and error or a strategy guide, because many of the effects such as weaknesses or status immunities aren't immediately apparent, and often times the behavior or special moves don't even match the monsters Gau is supposedly imitating. Grinding for the best Rages on the Veldt is also a pain in the ass.

11.) Having a bunch of characters is cool, but there's so no real way to keep their levels evened out.

12. Locke is a great character, but absolutely underwhelming in battle. I want him around, but I also don't want him around.

13. Banon and the Returners are a major part of the first half of the game's plot, but after the Espers attack Vector they completely vanish without explanation.

bump

14. You can only get Crusader by first defeating the Eight Dragons, two of which are in the final dungeon. It teaches Meltdown at a rate of 1x, meaning unless you grind you'll probably be at the final boss before anyone can learn it. This is only mitigated by the fact that Crusader and Meltdown both damage your party and kind of suck.

15. Although it's hardly a unique problem, the game is filled with status and instant-death spells that are completely useless because everything that would be worth the MP cost of using them against is immune.

17. Understandable given the great volume of amazing and memorable music in this game's soundtrack, but some of the best themes like Gau's Theme and Epitaph are only heard very briefly in-game.

18. The first half of the game is fairly linear (though I do like the three separate quests bit) but then the second half there's just so much to do
Do you know how much you mean to me
Why must you leave~?

19. Interactable objects in dungeons are not always clear--I'm thinking specifically of the hook you need to jump on in the Magitek factory. I got stuck here for a long time when I was a kid because I didn't know I could jump on the hook. I just assumed I wasn't supposed to be in the factory yet.

20. Kefka's ultimate attack Goner/Forsaken has a really awesome build-up, but pretty underwhelming results since the damage is split among party members. I mean, it's good for the player that Kefka's strongest move sucks, but it's also a bit disappointing in a way. At least it can't miss like Sephiroth's Supernova.
