More gameplay from Gamescom, with commentary from Mr. Martinet.

Anybody playing this? Cuz I'm sure not. :propeller:

I don't have a Switch, and still don't know if I'll ever get one, so I think I'm gonna sit this one out like I did Breath of the Wild. But I'll probably check out some streams of it. I'm really glad the game is getting praise, though I expected nothing less.

Spoiler.
Anybody catch the SMB1 airship theme from Super Mario Maker in the opening cutscene? Nice.

Game is amazing.

I got 50 moons before leaving the first major level.

Loving every second of it.

I preach tomorrow, by after that, this game will be my ENTIRE Sunday.

Amazon abruptly remembered that they do ship weekends and delivered my copy in two actual days instead of two business days. I've played to the beginning of the Sand Kingdom.

I like it so far, and it's definitely gotten a few laughs out of me, but I'll obviously need to play a lot more before I can say anything definitive about it. The only things bothering me at the moment are that the air dive move seems to be gone (minor) and that the game adamantly wants me to use the motion controls, which isn't possible in handheld mode. Really wish it would detect that those prompts are irrelevant to me and give me real controls instead of leaving me to guess. That's probably something that'll get less irritating as I play more.

I beat the game.

Spoiler.
I just got my 400th Moon. 483 more to go.

I think the ending is stupid. So glad the gameplay overshadows it, though.

Only a bit past the Sand Kingdom. Very hard to put down.

Also not game related but the joy cons are really small. My normally-tiny hands now feel like giant bear paws. Is this how normal people feel when they hold a Dualshock?

^ Not entirely.

This is still one of my favourite games of the year though. Sure my game of the year award is going to Divinity: Original Sin 2, but this one's easily number two.

I never updated when I beat the game. Whoops. I beat it on Monday with 331 moons.

I now have 503 moons, the 3 being the multi-moon after the quest Long Journey's End--AKA the Modern Mario Ultra-Hard Checkpointless Endgame Challenge Level. I still think 3D World has the best MMUHCECL, but this one was good--including the very real possibility of dying during the THANK YOU letters.

This game is a joy. What an awesome first game for the Switch. I might write more thoughts on the game when I'm not on mobile.

I do plan on going for all 830(?) moons, too. I want to play this game as long as it lets me.
