Gorillaz Returns

#1

Post by Valigarmander » Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:58 am

Maybe next year?
Jamie Hewlett — the artist side of Gorillaz, Damon Albarn’s virtual group — confirmed the band’s return in a series of Instagram posts earlier today. He posted three sketches of the band members, two of bassist Murdoc and one of guitarist Noodle. In the comments below the first image he posted, he said simply: “Yes. Gorillaz Returns.” Last year in an interview, Albarn said that he was prepping a new album and was “in the process of reactivating” the group for a potential 2016 release date. The last album Gorillaz released was 2011′s The Fall. The band’sFacebook page was also updated recently for the first time in a few months. Check out Hewlett’s new artwork below.

Man. I'd love another 'Gorillaz' or 'Demon Days'.

...could live without another 'The Fall', myself

I thought Plastic Beach was great. I don't think I could pick a favorite between that and the first two.

The Fall doesn't really deserve to have the Gorillaz name attached to it, though.

Looks like we gotta wait until next year.
There's still some waiting to do, but the next Gorillaz album will be "really ****' special," says animator Jamie Hewlett.

The Gorillaz have released four albums since 2001, the last one being The Fall in late 2010. During that stretch, they became fixtures in the worlds of rock, hip-hop, electronica, and of course, visual art, as Gorillaz is technically a band of cartoon characters created by Jamie Hewlett. All of the music comes from the mind of British musician Damon Albarn, the frontman for the (real) band Blur. Gorillaz announced their reunion at the beginning of 2015, and they began working on their next album in the fall of the same year. Fast-forwarding to last month, a Gorillaz collaborator named Remi Kabaka, who plays the voice of the cartoon band's drummer, revealed that Vic Mensa has been in the studio with Albarn.

Today, fans have finally received some more details regarding the next album, as Hewlett told the GorillazNorthAmerica fanpage that the still-untitled project will be ready in 2017. By placing the upcoming release somewhere within the bounds of 2017, he didn't do much to ease fans' restlessness. But he did say, however, that the album will be "special, really ****' special." Don't expect too many more details than that, but the Gorillaz brand of seamlessly curated audio-visual works of art can be trusted, so it's safe to say that whatever arrives in 2017 will be worth the wait.

Got the deluxe album today. Overall pretty good, but it'll be a while before I'm able to compare it to the other Gorillaz albums. I think my favorite tracks are "Ascension", "Saturnz Barz", and "The Apprentice".

I'm really excited to check it out. I've only heard a couple of the singles but I have high hopes despite hearing some pretty mixed reactions to it.

Yeah, relistening to the album a few times has made "Let Me Out" one of my favorites.

I have yet to be impressed by anything they've released in the past 2 5 (sure doesn't seem like it's been that long) months. "Hallelujah Money" was absolute trash. "Saturnz Barz" was just "meh".
That said, those are the only 2 songs I've listened to as of yet, so I can't/won't say anything about the new music as a whole... yet.
