Help.

Post by Booyakasha » Mon May 06, 2019 3:43 pm

So there's this piece of music I'm looking for. It's one of those minor-key chorales. Google identified it incorrectly as 'Carmina Burana---O Fortuna', which it emphatically is not. It is neither 'O Fortuna' nor 'Dies Irae'. Shut the hell up, Google.

It is minor-key, and very intense. It is of a type with 'O Fortuna' and 'Dies Irae'. It is in the public domain. Are any of you guys Archer fans? It's the song that plays in S8E7 when Barry blazes up on his motorcycle, with his goldang halberd. At the fourteen-point-five-minute mark. I mean, you'd know the song if you heard it.

Man, I really want to hear the whole thing now because maybe I might identify it, what with being into film scores/classical music and everything in between. I can't tell though by that short clip.

Do you know if they have used this song in other shows/movies?

^^Yes. It is so absolutely not 'O Fortuna'.

^I have heard it a million times in various media. It's in the public domain, so, like, when you need a scary gothic choir wailing away, it almost always is this, or 'O Fortuna', or 'Dies Irae'. Those seem to be the go-tos.

That scene in 'Archer'...like, the reason that one scene stood out to me as an exemplar of the music was because it was perfect. Barry driving up on his bike, halberd in hand, smiling. Angel of Death, right there. Hell in the flesh.

There's more in that link if you click through the clips with the arrows. It's in 1-3 second chunks, though, but they are in order.

Wow, that's really annoying. Was someone trying to upload the whole episode or something in just 1-3 second clips? Lmao.

They used to have the whole dingdanged sequence on YouTube. Evidently it gotted tuk down, else I could have just posted it here. What a damnable shambles. Ugh.

[EDIT: Every dang place I look online says it's 'O Fortuna!' It isn't! Stop it! Please!

Starring to wonder if it isn't an original piece that intentionally sounds like ones we've heard.

I was thinking maybe it was some other part of Carmina Burana but skimming thru it I don't think so...

It wouldn't be out of place in "Carmina Burana" (it, 'O Fortuna' and 'Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi' are three peas in a pod, I swear to the gods below). It just ain't in there, man.

I thought for a minute last night it was Night on Bald Mountain, but no. Both pieces just remind me, at parts, of the SMW castle theme.

The credits should have some acknowledgement of who played the song even if it's public domain, no? I can't check because I'm not going to pay for it, but surely someone here has access to it by one means or another.

The only musical credit for the episode goes to JG Thirlwell, the series composer. A good thought, though.
