How much do you spend on gaming?

Post by Shane » Tue Jan 03, 2017 9:01 pm

A while back I decided to put my games into a spreadsheet because I have so many games on so many different platforms with such a stupid backlog and found myself more than once accidentally double dipping. I figured if I'm doing that, I may as well add a column and track how much I'm spending. For 2016, that added up to $93.22 for 157 games, mostly bundled stuff, including 31 that I got for free. Most expensive game was Super Mario Galaxy for $7.51. Pretty reasonable cost, though the sheer number of games is rather absurd.

I usually sit between $100-150 in a year. Every few months I wander into a GameStop and walk out with a new $20-30 game, and that **** adds up. Haven't bought a system since my Vita though, which means I'll either be saving a lot by virtue of not having the system for new games, or splurging a lot on a new system finally. We will have to see how this year plays out.

It really depends on what games are out that year that I just gotta have; like I'll very rarely go out and buy $60 games unless it's just something I gotta have. My game purchases tend to be more in the $5-20 range like eShop stuff, and even then I only buy a few things a year. Maybe once a year I'll buy a controller or similar accessory, which can run anywhere between $15-50 depending.

I've only been tracking spending categorically since November (month after starting on my own) and I still had $567 for the year, so I'll just put that down as a ****load.

But that and board games are really my only significant costs besides rent. I walk everywhere, don't care for eating out or movies, etc.

Probably barely over $100. I'll get a game on Steam or two, or a bundle for PC. Then maybe one new game when it comes out. Most 3DS and PS4 games I wait for my birthday or Christmas so I can receive them as gifts instead of shelling out money, since I'm not that hardcore of a gamer these days.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

I'd say right in the middle with $100-250. Exceptions are years when a new console comes out that I like.

I bought one game last year. There really hasn't been much that has interested me lately.

I think I'll grab a console when they hit like $200 from Kohl's because they of all place seem to have the best Black Friday deals.

Australia prices mean we go well into the hundreds. All that takes is getting a couple of new releases each year.

^Do I remember hearing that they finally at least brought digital prices down a while back, or are you still getting ripped off there as well?

In 2016, I bought a used 2DS, 1 3DS game, & 2 WiiU games (taking advantage of a sale; I'll buy the console later this year). That was the first time I've spent money on (read: "had money to spend on") gaming in a few years.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It's gotten more competitive, but there's still disparity between Australia and US pricing. Depends on the company more than anything, there wasn't really a universal improvement for digital content.

For the past 2-3 years I've only spent between $50 and $100. I don't buy much new these days, and I still routinely ask for/get a game or two for Christmas and Birthdays.

Currently? Very little. On average? Far, far too much.

I chose $100 - $249.99. I got 4 DS games last year so that was roughly $200. :D
