Which animals do you have to see each and every time you visit the zoo? :D

I like elephants. Our local zoo has five of them, including a 4-year-old calf.

I'd spend hours in the aquarium if the kids would let me. The zoo has a tank of moon jellies-----------they're strange and beautiful. And of course the octopus is fun to watch.

Birds, as they're one of the few groups of animals that generally does better in captivity than in the wild. Also, the pretty plumage.
Do you know how much you mean to me

I didn't like zoos forever because the only one I grew up near was a terrible one that didn't provide ample space for the animals and was basically just adequate to not legally be abuse.

But the Oakland zoo is wonderful, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium always holds a special place in my heart because I volunteered there for so long. Good zoos are all about educating people about animals and letting you see and understand various behaviors and taking care of animals that can't be rehabilitated into the wild. A lot of them donate toward wildlife conservation too. They're really special places, I wish I had grown up near a good one.

I'm a fan of educational and breeding-aim-to-release-to-wild-again-program zoos. We also have animals that were rescued from abuse and neglect at our zoo. It stresses me to see them still stressing even though their lives are much better and their care is gentle and filled with love. I am disappointed that the proposal to have the savannah animals roaming on many acres didn't go through but I understand just how much work the keepers do to enrich the animals lives.

I always go see as many animals as I can... and I always tell Trisha how beautiful and wonderful she is.
