How long does retro go?
What do you consider the cut-off point for retro? I say the PS1.

That's probably about right, at least until the point when modern graphics become so different from PS2/GCN/Dreamcast that's the latter comes to be recognized as a distinct style (and I don't think we're terribly far off from that either).

I used to consider it two generations back (NES started being retro for N64/PSX era, SNES/Genesis was retro for PS2/GC/Xbox/DC era), but there's no way I'd consider PS2/Xbox/GC/DC to be retro right now, even though they came out like 15 years ago. So PSX/N64 sounds about right.
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes

I mentioned pay phones, and a kid did not know what they are. They also did not know about phones attached to the receiver with a cord that you would have to sit near to use.
Nothing past the N64 or PS1 is retro. They are too new, even if they came out in 2001 or so.
I would say having a cell phone in your pocket is more likely than having quarters on hand at this point. I haven't actually seen a pay phone in a long time.
You don't need quarters to make emergency phone calls, and cell phones can die or glitch out. I also read they can create complications in locating a person whereas that is not an issue on payphones or even landlines.
