The Game Boy is the 3rd best-selling video game platform in history and the second best-selling handheld, behind only the Nintendo DS. It sold 118.69 million units lifetime.

55 games for the console managed to sell over one million units and 12 games sold more than five million units. Below we've compiled a list of the 10 best-selling Game Boy games:

10th. Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land - 5.19 Million
9th. Pokemon Pinball - 5.31 Million
8th. Dr. Mario - 5.34 Million
7th. Pokemon Crystal - 6.39 Million
6th. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins - 11.18 Million
5th. Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition - 14.64 Million
4th. Super Mario Land - 18.14 Million
3rd. Pokemon Gold / Pokemon Silver - 23.10 Million
2nd. Tetris - 30.26 Million
1st. Pokemon Red / Pokemon Blue - 31.37 Million

No surprise to me for the #1 best-selling Game Boy game!! (Also, I own 8 and have played 9 of those games... how many do you own/have owned/have played? ) :D

Pokemon Crystal? I can understand G/S because they were still somewhat compatible on the original Game Boy but Crystal was purely GBC.

I'm also a little confused by Pokemon Crystal's presence on this list. We're GBC games included in this tally?

^ Must have been if Crystal is there.

9/10 of these are excellent. Tetris is meh but people like it. Mario and Pokemon really dominated that handheld. I'm surprised we don't see more SML games. This paragraph is ADD.

I only own two of those (SML2 and Pokemon Crystal). I own Tetris and Dr. Mario for NES and I've played all the rest at some point.

I didn't know Pokemon Pinball sold that well.

It's Pokemon at the height of its popularity, so I figured it did well. Got sequels, too.

VG Chartz is known for not being the most reliable, but a neat list regardless.

I played all but Pokemon Pinball (and at some point wanted to get that as a kid but alas I got Kirby Tilt n Tumble instead). Tetris I always had between our family's Game Boy and my grandma's Game Boy. Dr. Mario I always felt was better on Handheld with Single player.

I'm not surprised by anything on this list.

But then again, most of us had these games, so yeah.

I've only played three of those games. Or... two and a half, since one of them was Silver.

Disappointed the list includes GBC games. An accurate list wouldn't, and would also have included Link's Awakening.

^ I'm familiar with the numbers for Zelda games. That looks more accurate. I'm pretty certain Zelda outsold Wario Land at any rate.

Wikipedia doesn't have a worse track record than VGC at least.

I never really got the appeal of Tetris, its one of the games selling games, and... it just felt like busy work when I played it.
