Ivan the Terrible (1530-1584) and Oda Nobunaga (1534-1582) were contemporaries.

The upcoming North Korea summit is scheduled to take place on Sentosa Island, which means "peace" or "harmony" in Malay, which many superstitious South Koreans see as a good omen.

...They would probably be less thrilled to know that it was only given that name by Singapore's tourism board in the '70s. Before that, it was Pulau Blakang Mati, meaning "The Island of Death from Behind".

Today I learned that this song, which until literally as I'm writing this I'd only heard a remix of, takes place at a Wild West poker game--for some reason I always pictured it taking place at a bank.

There is a Finnish word (kalsarikännit) for getting drunk alone, at home, in your underwear.

I found out there are species of fish in Antarctica that have natural anti-freeze within their bodies which allows them to survive in the frozen waters without being frozen themselves.

Neapolitan ice cream gets its name from the (probably mistaken) belief that it originated in the Italian city of Naples, and the three flavors comprising it were originally pistachio (or almond), vanilla and cherry to make the ice cream resemble the Italian tricolor.

Thanks to @Booyakasha for starting that train of thought.

Hmmm. I've never had pistachio ice cream.

I've had the pistachio-creme Oreos. They're sublime. If pistachio ice cream is at all similar, that warrants investigation.

Pistachio's one of those things you'd never expect to make for a good dessert until you try it. I've had Watergate salad before, and it's pretty choice. Tastes kind of similar to peanut butter, but sweeter.

Isn't pistachio, vanilla, and cherry spumoni? Mmm. I could sure go for some spumoni. We've got cookie dough ice cream in the freezer. Life is hard.

Today I learnt that Turkey and Russia have had centuries-long conflicts dating back way before even WWI. Pretty interesting stuff that sets up more context for our modern history.
