Speaking of sprite comics did anyone ever read Kid Radd. That's by far the best sprite comic ever made IMO. Plot/setting wise it's like a combination of Homestuck and Wreck-it-Ralph and format-wise it's like a much earlier Homestuck (as much as you could do in 2002). I've recommended it to people within the last few years and they've still thought it was good

I've thought about doing a joke update for Bill & Fred's Average Adventure, but I can't be bothered to dig around for the thread.

Why did sprite comics die out?

(I suppose it's because the age of sprite-based games has long since passed...)

Homestuck was never fully using that sprite-based artstyle, and it's also very, very dead because it has the worst ending in any work of fiction ever written. It's like the ending of NGE but so, so much worse and it makes the bad epilogue and of Harry Potter and the degree to which the series was butchered by unfaithful ghostwriting look tame by comparison. It's so bad that as much as I loved Homestuck, I can't recommend it to anyone.

tbh, I'm not sure if many sprite comics would hold up today, but I might still enjoy them for nostalgia.

I could ever get into Homestuck. I made it up to the trolls and then gave up.

I liked Homestuck as it was going, enough to reread it multiple times before it ended, but that ending really killed it. I don't feel like I'd ever want to reread it again.

don't get me wrong, i still like most of it. like, everything before the last few pages/animations. the ending just felt like Hussie wanted to end it asap and stopped thinking about the actual story and characters at all.

What I said is extreme but I'm far from the only one who feels that way. My IRL friend feels the same way (even says Problem Sleuth is better) and described what went wrong in Homestuck with this Harry Potter metaphor that I totally agree with:
Spoiler.
The 5th book is amazing The 6th book introduces 50 new characters you don't care about instead of the ones from the previous 5 that you like, for a really long time. Each of these characters (who isn't just a joke) has their character arc cut off 2/3 completed, with no resolution despite a massive amount of time spent. This 6th book takes years to come out and is longer than the previous five books COMBINED. Existing characters you loved and expected to have some catharsis or a finished arc become jokes and irrelevant. Eventually, they succumb to a bunch of problems. In a gigantic asspull there's an in-universe "retcon" (it's never explained how this works) that completely removes the last 500 pages that happened and the problems there. Instead of the characters being able to solve it, they bring back a narcissistic psychopath character who fixes everything by telling everyone what to do and getting them in line, who has learned nothing from their mistakes but knows what's best for everyone. Around 200 pages near the end are spent on introducing new characters and twists that have no plot significance and will be dropped entirely.

You expect the 7th book to explain things about the lore and the story and be about as long as the 6th. Except when it does come out it's 2 pages, ghostwritten by someone else, and drawn in crayon, and explains nothing. The final battle is like one of those one-page Captain Underpants chapters and basically says "they did it" with no clear indication of what the **** happened so it's hard to even criticize it.
