I've never actually played any of the Land titles. Do any of them still hold up?
Y E S

i mean the first one's held up the worst i guess. it's still a good game but a lot of the things that make the series stand out started in WL2.

Well, the last one was about five years ago. Half a decade.

I've never actually played any of the Land titles. Do any of them still hold up?
I've replayed each of them multiple times, and Wario Land 3 is one of my all time favorite gameboy color games. I thought the alternate paths in Wario Land 2 were the coolist thing when I first discovered them.

Though I can't actually say whether they hold up as I haven't really touched my GBC/GBA games in a few years. I should bust them out and replay the series.

I was pretty salty when Wario Ware became a thing and they seemed to have dropped Wario Land for good.

There was Wario Land: Shake It!, released a mere ten years ago.

Speaking of 10-year-old games, I can't believe Super Mario Galaxy was that long ago. I still think of Rosalina and Captain Toad as new characters, but they've been around for a decade now.

i liked shake it! but imo i didn't think it hit a really satisfying difficulty level until the final stages. but i haven't played it in like 8 years, i should play it again since i probably suck at video games more than i used to

Shake It! was great, but didn't do well commercially and ended up kinda being the death knell for Wario platformers.

yeah..... but i think it's been long enough that maybe nintendo would be willing to float a balloon for the wario land series

I hope so. "Platformer where the main character can't die, but just gets transformed in grotesque ways" is a currently under-saturated genre

I have never played a Wario Land game, but if Nintendo released one for Switch, I'd probably get it. Or at least put it on a wishlist.

I think Wario Land 1 is the best in the series since it is a traditional-style Platformer, though I remember the Wario Land Virtual Boy demo being very fun but that was forever ago. Before the Mini Direct there were rumors it would be ported to 3DS and announced in the Direct, but that obviously didn't happen and I didn't really expect it to.

I kinda hope Playtonic somehow gets to develop the next DKC game.

I do believe Shake It! is the only Wario Land game I've played to completion. I thought it was an alright game. Loved the art style.

Maybe if I ever get back into single player games I'll finally give the other WL games a try.

I will proclaim from the rooftops that WL2 is the best game in the series, but most people say that it’s 4.

i've gotta be totally honest and say that i haven't played 2 or 3 (though i really have no reason not to). WL4 was my entry point to the series so it's nostalgic for me and also my baseline for what the series is. and of course it has a lot of good things going for it too.

2 is as close to a Metroidvania as the series gets, so maybe that’s why it resonates with me so much. I’d highly recommend it.

3 is great, too. I think I like it more than 4. For some reason, the “Race back to the beginning of the level on a timer” design choice didn’t totally land with me, which is why I’d probably rank the Wario Land series something like 2 > 3 > VB > 1 > 4 > Shake It!. And I say that as someone who really liked Shake It!.

What an underrated series.
