General NHL Discussion Thread

Post by March » Tue Sep 24, 2013 9:06 pm

Unfortunately I am not a huge hockey buff like some other people on VGF, but I know a little bit. Hopefully the Wings aren't struggling to get into the playoffs this year, and that our defense improves. Having Lidstrom retire has certainly caused some problems at the blue line. In other news, boo Penguins, and I hate Crosby.

Discuss away.

WOO PLAYOFFS.

I guess I'll be the resident NHL fan.

As of the new Playoff format, all #4 seeds are Wild Cards, therefore #4 seeds are not necessarily in the same division as seeds #1-3 (looking at you, Dallas).
Also: 1st & 2nd rounds are Division seeds (#1-4.), 3rd & 4th rounds are Conference seeds (#1-8.)

Round 1
Western Conference, Central Division
#1 Colorado Avalanche eliminated by #4 Minnesota Wild 4-3
#3 Chicago Blackhawks eliminate #2 St. Louis Blues 4-2

Western Conference, Pacific Division
#1 Anaheim Ducks eliminate #4 Dallas Stars 4-2
#2 San Jose Sharks eliminated by #3 Los Angeles Kings 4-3
Eastern Conference, Atlantic Division
#1 Boston Bruins eliminate #4 Detroit Red Wings 4-1
#2 Tampa Bay Lightning eliminated by #3 Montreal Canadiens 4-0

Eastern Conference, Metropolitan Division
#1 Pittsburgh Penguins eliminate #4 Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2
#2 New York Rangers eliminate #3 Philadelphia Flyers 4-3
Round 2
Western Conference Semi-Finals
#3 Chicago Blackhawks eliminate #4 Minnesota Wild 4-2
#1 Anaheim Ducks eliminated by #3 Los Angeles Kings 4-3
Eastern Conference Semi-Finals
#1 Boston Bruins elimiated by #3 Montreal Canadiens 4-3
#1 Pittsburgh Penguins eliminated by #2 New York Rangers 4-3

Round 3
Western Conference Finals
#5 Chicago Blackhawks eliminated by #6 Los Angeles Kings 4-3
Eastern Conference Finals
#4 Montreal Canadiens eliminated by #5 New York Rangers 4-2
Stanley Cup Championship
LOS ANGELES
KINGS DEFEAT NEW YORK RANGERS
4-1

THE LOS ANGELES KINGS ARE THE 2014 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!

Love hockey-----too bad Wisconsin doesn't have an NHL team, otherwise I might have something to contribute to the conversation. (Don't get me wrong-----I love the Admirals. But they aren't in the NHL.)

oh well------the admirals will always be major-league to me, in the only place that matters (*points to groin heart*)

0:49 left and the score is 5-1.
I'm sure it's safe to say that Philadelphia has beaten New York to tie the series.

As I was typing New York scored so it's 5-2.

I've been wanting to get to an Admirals game at some point. I hear the Bradley Center is better built for hockey than basketball, yes?

^^Can't speak to that----don't care enough about basketball to unpack the intricacies that make one venue better- or worse-suited to it. What I can say is that, you want to see an Admirals game, twenty bucks or so will pretty much get you right up against the glass, if that's what you want (personally, I prefer to be about eight rows up----perfect combination of closeness and elevation) (little cheaper, too, though security dont exactly swoop down out the rafters at you if you move up on the sly as the game progresses---that's AAA hockey for you).

Awesome, Wild made it through. I'd much rather face them than the Avalanche.
