Hi guys, Now i'm on the lookout for a good first person shooter video game, I have seen a couple on youtube videos, but I will instead like to ask here to get several other feedback.

That's remarkably broad. You'll likely do better by giving us an idea of what you've been looking at and what you've enjoyed in the past than by asking for the best examples of an entire genre.

Yeah, there are a lot of subgenres, believe it or not. I've enjoyed FPS/RPG hybrids like Borderlands, and top-downs like Jamestown, myself. Surely someone more into the various genres than me can provide more valuable insight though ;)

Old home console stuff has always been at the top of the list for me. Turok: Rage Wars is probably my favorite, on of the few games I enjoyed even against bots, though people are much more fun to play with. An example for something more modern would be Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon or Duke Nukem Forever. I barely played them at all but enjoyed the bit I did, and the reviews make them both look like great fun.

Try Doom, if you haven't already.

Both the new and the old.

You'll have to specify a lot more, tbh.

Do you want something single player?

Do you want something with more recent polish, or are you going to settle for something that's shown its age?

Multiplayer? Single player?

Ultra-competitive multiplayer, or somewhat of more laid back environment with quicker games?

I haven't been playing many FPSs in recent years, though I have gotten a lot out of Zandronum, a multiplayer source port for Doom. The modding community is still thriving, so there are tons of traditional campaigns, multiplayer map packs, and total gameplay mods to choose from, as well as an active online multiplayer community.

The system requirements are very low, which is a plus if you don't have a dedicated gaming rig.

Well depending on what you console/PC is capable of here is a small list of games I think you can play.

1. Darkness 2. (FPS, very good story line, No Multiplayer if i am correct)
2. The Half-Life series.( I hope I dont have to explain this one).
3. Doom (FPS, have not played it yet but has some good reviews!)
4. Borderland series (A very unique and fun FPS from 2k , a fun review added in the end for this)
5. Quake/Unreal series !

[Post a few more and I can let you post links //Jere]

Don't bother with any James Bond games after Nightfire.

Goldeneye: Source was just updated for the first time in three years this past August 12th. I hadn't really been aware of it until now. It's mindless multiplayer fun (and ONLY multiplayer). It's also pretty. I like it when I need to get my FPS urge out. It's totally free to download.

I certainly had fun with it. And I played it on an emulator. Really wish I had a super scope.

It's not great, but I'd say it's pretty decent. Definitely a unique experience for a Mario game.
