So after seeing this game on frigging every site I go to, and watching a few videos....I brought this game, on tuesday I believe.
After being dumped in the middle of a desert, and dying countless times, I got annoyed with it. So now turned the mode to peaceful.....and built me a big old sand(stone) Castle. With a bridge going to another tower (and eventually another tower, possibly more.)
Really love the creative idea of this game, Tempted to leave my sandcastle for a while and build a wooden fort, or stone castle.

That's what I thought at first, too.Prince Toad wrote:(Oh, like, win a copy of it. I see. As you were.)
Well, technically you kinda beat the game when you run out of rock to build with, or something. Or throw everything into a lava pool so that only bedrock remains.
Or build a special fort in the Nether with traps that actually work against Ghasts.
At any point, you should probably get some fresh air if you manage to do any of that.

See, this is the reason WHY I hate the indie community so goddamn much. Bonus points to criticsquid for pretty much saying what I was thinking.
I muttered 'light as a board, stiff as a feather' for 2 days straight and now I've ascended, ;aughing at olympus and zeus is crying

Yeah, you have to get a shelter up pretty quickly. I've been playing for a while and I still die on the first night sometimes, it's tough. Sand is bad too because you can't make a roof with it and trees don't grow in it-- you need wood to start yourself off. You might want to consider starting over. I've never been in an actual desert where I couldn't see dirt and trees in the distance, but maybe it's a biome or something that I've just never encountered. The Doctor wrote:So after seeing this game on frigging every site I go to, and watching a few videos....I brought this game, on tuesday I believe.

You can just burn pieces of wood to make charcoal, which is the exact same as coal.
As to how to burn it, you just throw in some wooden planks or something. The furnace will eat it up quickly, but you can probably get a nice few pieces of charcoal in that time.
Meanwhile, just focus on getting cobblestone and making stone equipment, then worry about stuff like iron and making very deep mine shafts.

Yeah, I always make one and provide access to it from any shelters I build, either directly or with a covered tunnel. It's not too efficient, especially if you don't find caverns, but it gets you tons of stone and some other **** if you're lucky. Also I've started putting out new horizontal shafts near the bottom-- good way to find rarer resources.

I make an inverted Pyramid (8x 8) to begin with (Can get to the bottom quicker, then make steps going down two blocks wide, 1 block deep and one across.then dig out under them.
So I made Quarry number four last night. Went slightly larger (15x15), and this time I dug down a little bit more. Finally got my first Redstone and Diamond ore (literally right next to each other. (Five diamond blocks and six redstone, and I love the look of the redstone blocks.) And now bedrock.
Also found a wolf.

11/11/11 : The Word of Notch
So Notch is aiming for an official release of 11/11/11, same day as Skyrim.
I love how he said he was working on achievements, ran into some issues, and got so mad he up and programmed weather into the game instead.
