Thehero, available today.



--Four versions: Luminary/Eleven (DQ 11S, voiced by Mitsuki Saiga), Arusu (DQ 3, voice Nobuyuki Hiyama), Solo (DQ 4, voice Takeshi Kusao), Eight (DQ 8, voice Yuki Kaji)
--Each has 1 pallet swap based on other DQ characters
--Random critical hits (ex: full-charge F-smash does 51% & kills at 0%)
--Shield (like Link) & F-tilt (unlike Link) can block projectiles
--B: Frizz, Frizzle, Kafrizz (chargeable fire spell, storable charge)
--Side B: Zap, Zapple, Kazap (chargeable electrosword spell)
--Up B: Whoosh, Swoosh, Kaswoosh (chargeable wind jump, does damage)
--Down B: Command Selection (random list, cancelable with shield)
----Ooomph: Temp ATK boost
----Psych up: Boosts next single move
----Bounce: Reflector
----Heal: Reduce damage
----Flame Slash: ...flame slash.
----Kacrackle Slash: Freezes victim
----Acceleratle: Speed/Jump monado
----Kaboom: Bomb spell
----Snooze: Sleep ray, next attack guaranteed crit
----Hatchet Man: Axe
----Thwack: Can OHKO, with increased probability depending on opponent's damage
----Zoom: Guaranteed mid-stage recovery from anywhere (can hit head on ceilings)
----Kaclang: Turn into invincible*, immobile steel statue
----Metal Slash: OHKO's metal opponents, *including those with Kaclang
----Hocus Pocus: Random positive or negative effect
----Magic Burst: Uses all MP for huge AOE attack
----Kamikazee: Pokemon-style Explosion (is a self-destruct).
--Final: Giga Slash (good-sized activation hitbox)
--Stage: Yggdrasil's Altar (starts like a slow Halberd, then other platforms can temporarily appear while in flight, chests can appear with items but might be Mimics)
--8 songs: Adventure (DQ3), Fighting Spirits (DQ3), Battle for the Glory (DQ4), Wagon Wheel's March, War Cry, Marching Through the Fields, The Hero Goes Forth with a Determination, Unflinchable Courage. Victory theme is Prelude.
--7 Spirits on DLC board
--Classic route: Stamina based.
--Mii Costumes ($0.75 each, not included in Thehero download):
----Brawler: Martial Artist
----Swordy: Veronica, Erdrick
----Hat: Slime

Version 4.0 features:
--FS Meter now timed (slow depletion)
--"Very Easy" added to WoL
--Betting has returned to Spectate mode
--Online Tourney mode
--Can now add screenshots in video editor

Amiibos now available: Isabelle, Pkmn Trainer, Pichu

Very Easy mode in WoL? Guess I have no excuse not to finish it now, even if I kinda hate it.

Some stuff left out of the presentation that makes the new guy way more balanced:
--Thehero is not fast & his jumping is crap (unless you have Acceleratle active), and he doesn't have great reach outside of spells & smashes (plus his Up-smash is one of those directly-above-only deals).
--Magic Burst's power & range is limited by your MP.
--There are several Command Selections he didn't cover: Whack (shorter range Thwack), Sizz (weak fire attack), Sizzle (stronger fire attack), Bang (weak version of Kaboom).
--Oomph lowers your defense.
--Metal Slash is utterly useless against non-metal opponents.
--Your opponent gets KO credit if you use Kamikazee, making it a terrible option in time battles.
--The Command Selections offered are truly random, so the likelihood of getting the exact one you want while under pressure from a live opponent is low.
--Most of the spells are projectiles & can be pocketed/swallowed/etc., including Whack/Thwack & Snooze.

Also new: VR Mode, which uses the VR goggles.

^I mean, we know that he plays Thehero now, so it's not impossible to run into him online.... ;)

Ok, so.
Thehero has TWO bosses on his Classic route, which is creative (Rathalos & Giant Zard, the two dragons, of course). The rest of it, not so much; after a clever Kirby Team representing Slimes, it's just 4 mirror matches (two of whom have allies, but still).
His Spirit Board is way smaller than Joker's, but 6/7 of the fights are fun (& 2 of those spirits are enhanceable, so that's cool). Hero's Comrades, though, is some bullcrap.

So, Oomph + Psych Up + Hatchet Man = 80% damage.
So, let's talk balance. Thehero is almost certainly gonna get a nerf in the next patch, so how will they probably do it? I'm thinking....
--Drop either Whack or Thwack; we don't need both.
--Remove Whack/Thwack/Kamizakee/Magic Burst from the Hocus Pocus options (really, just about all of the other Command Selections should be removed from the Hocus Pocus options; it does plenty of other effects anyway).
--Snooze should not work on airborne opponents.
--Either lower the crit probability or lower the crit multiplier.
...really, that's it. He just needs fewer OHKO's.
