PS2 Recommendations

Post by I am nobody » Tue Aug 08, 2017 9:18 pm

I finally have a real one, but I'm realizing that I spent almost that entire era either being too young or too much of a Nintendo fan to notice anything but the biggest releases. Anyone have some favorite hidden gems?

Also, this setup is a long way from my first choice, so I'm only looking for games that haven't been ported to anything more modern. So far I've got the Shadow Hearts series and Raw Danger. Region locking isn't an issue.

Disgaea and Kingdom Hearts if you weren't able to experience those on other platforms

Dark Cloud is a pretty decent choice as far as RPGs go.

The Tony Hawk Pro Skater games on PS2 are excellent in my memory, and I think they'd still be fun to play now, but there's a chance that nostalgia is coloring that recommendation.

There are lots of hidden gems, sleeper hits, underrated games for the PS2, being the console with the most games and all.

I recently bought Onimusha: Warlords. I played that years ago at a friend's house when it first came out. Had lots of fun with it.

'Course you got MGS2 and 3.

Then if you want a blatant MGS parody get Spy Fiction. It's so stupid but at the same time entertaining. Literally feels like you're playing MGS2.

Tomb Raider Anniversary is really good, as is Tomb Raider Legend.

TIME **** SPLITTERS

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. I really hate how it's called Star Ocean because the entire game you're stuck on one planet.

You got the .hack games, although I've never gotten past the first one.

Suikoden IV always bored me. I personally don't recommend that.

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is pretty much only for fans of Final Fantasy VII. Even so, it's meh.

Minority Report: Everybody Runs - I had so much fun with this game back in the day. It has a mediocre score but I think it was slightly above average. I have the GameCube version though. But it was released on other systems and they're all the same. Talking about it actually makes me want to replay that game - if only my backlog weren't so clogged up.

'Mark of Kri' is an awesome sneaking about-type game, and it has one of the best combat systems I can think of. It's super great.

I really enjoyed that one but yeah, the titling wasn't particularly appropriate. It's got a good ToS style battle engine, though.

Get The Warriors. Especially if you like the 1979 movie, but SUPER ESPECIALLY if you want a great 3d beat em up.

If you're into platformers, the first three Jak & Daxter games are fantastic. I've also heard excellent things about the PS2 Ratchet and Clank games (though I only played the second one).

Final Fantasy XII is the only PS2 game I've played, but I enjoyed it. Would recommend.

honestly my favorite franchise of all time. The original trilogy is incredible. Deadlocked is fun too, but a step down from the first three.

DMC1 and DMC3. Both technically have PS360 HD ports but I don't know if you have either of those consoles. DMC3 also has a PC port but it's bad, so.

I haven't been able to play it yet, but SMT Nocturne is considered one of the best games in the series.

^I've got PS3 and 4. Picked up Nocturne's PS3 port a while back when they had the franchise sale on PSN, but I also haven't played it.
