The lights generally just work for ticks and quick kills, or for linking. That's how I use them at least.

Shoulder buttons are a must for games like Super Metroid, though. You can't realistically expect someone to hold run, shoot and jump all at once with just their thumb. Shoulders are more useful overall, even if fighters are awkward. Having 6 face buttons the same size and shape is poor design in general for a device the player isn't realistically meant to be looking at. Of course, that's moot anyway because I have a 6-face button controller for fighters anyway.

I know I always used the R button for the dashing in Mega Man X because why would you want to use the A button it's cumbersome

For most games I suppose that top buttons are better if we had to pick but I still think six face buttons should be a thing. Controls get cramped sometimes with just four to work with.

I have to be honest, the six button SNES controller just felt off anyway. I think you'd be better off with an Advantage.

My hands are small, so I like 4 face buttons+shoulder buttons. 6 face buttons is more optimal for fighting games, which is why fightsticks exist.

They made an official 6 button SNES controller? Interesting.

^ I can't use sticks worth a damn, personally. I end up jumping everywhere on accident.

Not sure about official, but there were a few. Easy enough to find, at least.

The bottom one is officially licensed, even has the Seal. Seems like it's probably the best. Certainly looks the best at least. Which did you try?

Hori generally makes very good controllers, actually, so given the choice I would go with theirs. Mine didn't show up with a search, so I'll have to get a photo when I'm home.

For some reason I never realized you could change the control scheme, so I got in the habit of Double Tapping to dash for a long time. When I found out you could map Dash to R, it was like the clouds opened up and heaven sang.

^ I used it like that as well and so I didn't realize you could dash off of walls and then everything became pretty easy.

^Yeah, I'd claw grip to A for wall dashes. How else would you get the Helmet upgrade in Storm Eagle's stage?

You can actually just use the inside of your thumb, if you do it right.

^True, but when you've gotta reach all the way to Y to shoot at the same time, things just get annoying. The moral of the story is that R is far superior.

I actually don't remember there being a way to remap those buttons. Did you play the SNES version? I do recall remapping for the last time I touched a MMX game, I think 2 or 3, but that may have been an emulator.

Now that I'm actually thinking about it, I can't remember. I know I've used R to dash...

You can totally remap buttons in the SNES version of MMX, it's in the options

This thing goes on sale November 11 for $60 in North America (Nov 10 for $100 in Australia). You can purchase a second controller for $10; however, Wii Classic Controllers are also compatible.

Still looks like a great deal to me.

More info: the NES Classic Controllers can also be plugged into Wiimotes and used to play Virtual Console NES games. Video/audio output is HDMI; there is no analog output. Power is USB; presumably this means it can be powered via your TV or other device's USB port as well as a USB AC adapter.
