Privacy Policy
This is the web site of Video Gamers
First Network.
We can be reached via e-mail at editors@vgf.net.
For each visitor to our web page, our
web server automatically recognizes no information regarding
the domain or e-mail address.
We collect the e-mail addresses of
those who post messages to our bulletin
board, the e-mail addresses of those who sign up
for our newsletter,
and information volunteered by the consumer, such as
survey information. You
should not receive any unauthorized e-mail or postal
mail from third parties as a result of giving information
to VGF.
The information we collect is used to
improve the content of our web page, used to notify
consumers about updates to our web site, and used to
help better target advertising (released about visitors
as a whole, not individually).
VGF Forums
Please keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose
personal information in VGF's
message boards, your information can be viewed and/or
used by others (with the exception of your e-mail address
if you wish to make it unviewable). As a result, VGF
recommends that those of you who do not want personal
information revealed to others, and/or those of you
who are under 13, do not disclose this information.
You reserve the right to fill in as
much or as little of the profile as you wish and may
change it at any time. The only information that is
necessary is a valid e-mail address so that you can
retrieve your password if you forget it. All data in
your VGF Forum profile can be changed by going here.
Parents, if you feel that your pre-teen
child has disclosed information that you would prefer
not to be revealed, contact us so that we can work with
you on making sure your child is safe online while at
VGF.
Furthermore, those of you who register
for the forums may decide whether or not you want to
have your e-mail address displayed, in addition
to whether or not you want to receive e-mail updates
from VGF. If you register for this service, you must
agree to the terms
of its use before you will be allowed to register.
The forums are the only location within
VGF.Net that uses cookies from VGF. (See below
for privacy information from sites that work with VGF
in some way and utilize cookies: VGFMail
and Third Party Advertising.) These
cookies are used to store your preferences (password
and topic information if desired), and date and time
of last visit (so new topics can be shown to you easily).
VGF Newsletters
The VGF Newsletter
is used to provide update information to visitors who
request it. Since this is an opt-in list, you will not
receive e-mail from us if you do not want it. Additionally,
in order to join the list, it is necessary for a response
to be sent from the e-mail with which you subscribed
before your address will be activated. This is a one-time
verification notice that makes sure you were the one
who subscribed and acts as a way to double check so
you don't get unauthorized mail (see below for Opt-Out
information to unsubscribe).
VGF Survey
We'd like to know more about the people who use this
web site so we can serve you better, and this survey
allows us to do that. There's nothing to identify you
personally, and you won't receive any email or other
sales pitches by participating. This survey is conducted
by a third party company (Burst Media).
Opt-Out: Contact
VGF allows you to opt out of contact from us at any
time. The bottom of each VGF Newsletter contains instructions
for you to unsubscribe at any time should you decide
you no longer wish to receive it. For VGFMail users,
you can configure your options so that you do not receive
e-mail updates from us. For VGF Forum members, you can
configure your profile so that you do not receive e-mail
from us. Other than those 3 services, if you have not
opted in, you will not need to opt out, as VGF will
not contact you (see below: anti-spam).
Opt-Out: Data Collection
The only instance in which VGF utilizes cookies itself
(VGFMail and our advertisers use them, but VGF does
not have control over those cookies - please consult
them for opt-out procedures) is in the VGF Forums. The
reason they are used there is to improve your forum
browsing experience (cookies make it possible to store
preferences and make surfing the forums easier, quicker,
and we find more enjoyable). If you would prefer to
not have cookies enabled, please consult your browser's
Help section for additional information on how to disable
them.
Other than the VGF Forums, you are told
before we collect data from you, and at that time, you
have the option of not supplying that data. VGF will
not collect data "blindly" from you.
Visitor Contact Information
We do not make the e-mail addresses of those who access
our site available to other organizations, though your
e-mail address may be posted on our site(s) when we
respond to you or give you credit for sending something
to us. If you do not want us to share your e-mail address
with others in such instances, please let us know when
sending email to us by telling us that you do not want
us to post your e-mail address in the event that your
review, code, news story, or other material is posted.
Additionally, those who register for VGF Forums
can choose to make others unable to view your e-mail
address.
If you supply us with your postal address
on-line (only requested in instances such as winning
contests, at which time the relevance of such information
should be clear), you will only receive the information/product
for which you provided us your address. In those circumstances,
anyone under 13 years of age must have a parent provide
consent to us prior to disclosing such information.
We do not collect phone numbers from
our visitors, and any postal or e-mail addresses that
are collected will not be given or sold to any other
organization unless stated otherwise before that information
is collected, or if necessary in such cases as supplying
a shipping address to a company to send you a game for
winning a contest.
We are not in the
business of spam. Like most people, we hate spam. If
you receive e-mail from VGF, it is because you either
a) sent us an e-mail requesting a response/sent us an
e-mail which we felt implied a response was needed,
or b) signed up for one of our lists for updates (VGF
updates, VGF Forum updates, VGFMail updates), which
you have the option to leave at any time by either following
the instructions within the e-mail or changing your
profile (process varies depending on the list - see
above: Opt-Out). If you have questions about e-mail
that you do receive from VGF, contact us and address
the specific problem so that we can take any necessary
actions to rectify the situation.
VGF Affiliates
Most VGF affiliates
follow similar guidelines even if they do not link to
this statement. Those who do link to this privacy policy
have adapted the policy as their own and thus follow
the guidelines within it. Those who do not link to this
privacy policy have their own set of guidelines, which,
while they may be similar, do not always reflect those
of VGF and are beyond our control. If you have questions
regarding privacy on our affiliate sites, we encourage
you to contact them (or contact us and ask about a specific
site so we can get the information you need).

VGFMail
Any information VGF receives about our visitors from
VGFMail
will be kept confidential and will not be distributed
to outside sources (with the possible exception of demographic
data, which will again only be released about visitors
as a whole, not individually). However, the e-mail service
is run by bigmailbox.com,
so when you sign up for the service, they will collect
information from you. If you would like more information
from them regarding what they do with this information,
they can be reached by e-mail at contact@gohip.com
or by phone at 1-800-468-8915. Please note that VGFMail
now uses cookies, but for security purposes only. If
additional e-mail services are offered in the future,
their privacy policy will be linked to here, and/or
their contact information will be posted.
Third Party Advertising
VGF, Inc. works with third parties that serve ads...
